Chelsea star Mikel officially changes name

Post a Comment
Nigerian midfielder, John Obi Mikel, born John Michael Nchekwube Obinna (son of Michael Obi) in 1987, has decided to change his name, after having enough of having people call him the wrong name.

The midfielder has officially changed his name to Mikel John Obi.

The truth is, he was never actually called 'Mikel', but came as a result of a wrong name used by the Nigerian FA in 2003.

John Mikel Obi was born John Michael Nchekwube Obinna. 'Mikel' only became his 'name' when the Nigerian FA mistakenly used Mikel instead of Michael on his submission form during the registration process for the Fifa Under-17 World Championships in 2003.

It seems he loves being called that name ever since he joined Chelsea in 2006, and has now officially changed his name to Mikel John Obi.
