Written by: Oladayo Juan Joe Bamidele

Ivorian defender Lamine kone has today signed a new five-year contract with English Premier League club
Sunderland.

The centre-back joined Sunderland in the January transfer window for £6m from French side Lorient, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract.

New manager David Moyes to rejected a reported £22m offer from his former club Everton near the end of the transfer window for Kone.

Sunderland have now moved to secure his services for a further year above his original contract, also with an improved terms for the player.

MY VIEW

Wonderful step for Sunderland!

They really need this man at this moment, as they are fighting another relegation battle.
