Algeria's Riyad Mahrez was nominated as part of the 30-man list announced Saturday for the African Player of the Year football award for 2016.
The forward played a big role in Leicester City's 'surprise' 2015-16 English Premier League (EPL) title win.
His impressive form in the campaign made professionals vote him EPL Players' Player of the Year. The 25-year old has also been spectacular for Algeria.
Football pundits have said omitting Mahrez from the 30-man list will be unjust, considering his impressive form last season for club side and country. Some pundits even went as far as making a bold prediction of him making the top three.
Actually, I will be surprised if Mahrez doesn't win the award, as far as 2016 is concerned, he was outstanding; winning the league in the least probable team. Not only that, he alongside Kante and Vardy were the team's backbone.
The African Player of the Year award 2016 will take place in Abuja, Nigeria on 5 January, 2017.
