Sunderland’s English-Nigerian teenager, Josh Maja, 18, has said
he has the eligibility of representing Nigeria at senior levels. The
sensational teenager was born in England.
The Sunderland striker made his first-team (club) debut for
the team in their 2-1 victory over QPR in the English
League Cup in September
2016, coming on as a 69th minute substitute.
The teenager told Sunderland’s official YouTube
“I am originally from London but my family is from Nigeria. I grew up with my
three brothers and my mom and sister, ”
“My family, mainly my mom, advises me
everyday to work hard and be dedicated to my football.”
He named Defoe as his favourite player in
the team, while mentioning Messi as his overall favourite: “At this club my
favourite is Defoe. Messi is my favourite player, the way he handles the ball
and the way he controls and scores goals.”
Josh Maja played previously at the academy
of Crystal Palace, Fulham and Manchester City, before he was signed by
Sunderland in 2015.
