Ayew gives Aston Villa away victory after 437 days

Written by: Oladayo Juan Joe Bamidele

Ghana forward Jordan Ayew came on as a substitute to score Aston Villa's winning goal against Reading, giving them their first away victory in 437 days.

The game was heading for a draw until the Ghanaian striker came off the bench to replace Rudy Gestede 13 minutes before the regular time.

Steve Bruce's era kicked off with a winning game, having not won their last 11 matches.

The special moment came when Ayew was tripped inside the box by Reading defender Liam Moore; earning Villa a penalty.

Ayew took the penalty, kicking it to the bottom-right corner to spark wild jubilation among Villa fans.

Meanwhile, fellow Ghanaian Albert Adomah assisted Aston Villa's 38th minute.

Lovely contributions from these Africans in Aston Villa.

The last time they tasted away victory was over 14 months ago; quite pathetic for a team of Aston Villa stature.

Welcome Steve Bruce! They recently appointed his as a new manager, after sacking Roberto di Matteo.
